Katherine Novotny is a western clinical herbal educator & practitioner, an artist, and the owner of the Indiana Herbal Center.  As a community herbalist, she believes in seasonal health care and empowers her students to pursue healing through backyard gardens, kitchen potions, and deepening their connection to local forests.  She is Professional Member of the American Herbalist Guild and is well versed  in western herbal medicine; as well as Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs.

In 2007, Novotny left her home state of Indiana to pursue her wanderlust and find her calling.  She landed in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she spent the last 10 years learning the healing properties of plants.  She taught as one of the core faculty members at the Ohlone Herbal Center in Berkeley CA and helped run, a low-cost community herbal clinic where no one was turned away for lack of funds.  She has since, moved back to Indiana and is thrilled to be back, living amongst the small, progressive Bloomington community.  Novotny comes from a eastern European lineage filled with crafty, green-thumbed influences. When she is not teaching herbal medicine,  you can find her playing with clay, admiring mushrooms, or in her backyard; gardening, wrangling chickens, and meditating with her bees. She has been known to stop at a yard sale or two.
